June 16 at the Market

This week we’ve got fresh, organic strawberries from the farm. You can smell the just-picked sweetness – so different from the berries that have traveled a thousand miles to the grocery store.  With the first bite you can see the pure red-ness of the fruit, no white centers! Eat them straight from the basket, as a yogurt topping, in a salad, or our favorite combination – chocolate covered.

Check out “What The Well-Dressed Salad Is Wearing For Spring” for an easy mixed green Strawberry salad, or this simple chocolate/white chocolate combination

Special features this week:

  • La Creperie will be preparing savory and sweet crepes made to order - some of the best crepes this side of Paris!
  • Families and all animal lovers – See reptiles and amphibians up close, from the House of Reptiles
  •  Little Billy’s Food Truck (from Barrington Restaurant Billy’s) serving up a fun menu including grilled cheese, pulled pork, sweet potato fries.
Don’t forget to bring your compostable food scraps to the ecoRI table (veggies, coffee grounds, plant material)!

See you at the market!

Barrington Farmers Market - Go Local

The sun will be shining this Saturday -  Welcome back the Barrington Farmers’ Market!
Sweet strawberries are here! Lettuces, and lots of other of greens and just-picked produce from the farms, fresh fish from Pt. Judith, breads and pastries from Seven Star Bakery and Bristol Bakery, artesian cheese, and lots more. Returning crowd favorite, Mark Tabor will be here at the keyboard.
Come to the market and enjoy the pure sweetness of June!

This week: Guest Chef

Guest Chef Ricardo Costa will be at the market preparing stir-fry with seasonal veggies – taste a sample and be inspired!

New for 2012

Several new food and specialty vendors - stop by and say hello!

Market "Cafe" - We’ll have tables set up in the rear of the parking lot, by the river. After your shopping, enjoy delicious coffee from Providence Roasters and relax with friends.

ecoRI Collecting Food Scraps - Bring your compostable food scraps to the ecoRI table (veggies, coffee grounds, plant material – no meat please). The food scraps will go to local farmers for their compost pile, or donated to community gardens and public school growing projects. Since 2010, ecoRI estimates that it has collected nearly 30,000 pounds of food scrap! Instead of filling the RI Landfill, the end result is nutrient-rich soil used to grow local food.

Hope to see you at the Market!

The Greenhorns Movie

From our friends at Farm Fresh RI:

"The Greenhorns" is a film about young farmers in America.
It is a traveling documentary film project used to promote awareness about the decline of the agricultural industry, enliven discussion about these issues amongst a broad audience, and to explore the lives of the young farming community in the United States.

Some RI farmers are supposed to be featured in the film!

There are two opportunities to watch the film.
